where are the American cheese and old English cheese blocks?

so I'm racking my brain here! Remember the block cheese tht came in a box kinda like Velveeta, but it wasn't Velveeta, ya know?

This stuff was firmer, had a real zing to it, and made the bomb diggity sauces and mac 'n cheese.
It was a bit like that Bongaards cheese, almost like that old school government cheese some of us older folks remember, right?
It wasn't even that long ago, bcs I'd see it piled up near the milk and stuff.

Now? Forget about it! It's like it vanished off the face of the earth, and when I ask, I just get pointed to the Velveeta with this blank stare
Anyone else ring a bell with this?
I might have a lead on some Land O' Lakes block American that looks kinda similar. Gonna give that a shot and see if it's the real McCoy. Fingers crossed!

Too real...made the kind of mac 'n cheese that made you pause mid bite and appreciate life. I remember seeing it near the dairy coolers too, stacked in those cardboard bricks, no frills, no fancy labels. Could've sworn it was store brand american or some foodservice style cheese.

While this is not at all what your talking about, Costco sells an English coastal cheddar that is amazing. Have not tried it on pizza yet but this is inspiring me. Would be grest as part of a mac cheese bkend. Strong flavor, can be grated but is on the crumbler side.

Sounds like you're remembering a firmer, tangier processed cheese similar to Bongaards or old government cheese and not Velveeta. Its tough to find now since its mostly scarce from stores. Land O' Lakes block American cheese might be the closest match. Fingers crossed it hits the spot
