new wave vs old school pizza shops

Just came across a write-up on the best pizza slices in NYC that split shops into three categories: Revivalists, Classics, and Neighborhood favorites.

The Revivalists are the ingredient-obsessed, technique-heavy new wave places like Best Pizza, Scarr's, Sofia Pizza Shoppe, L'Industrie, and Mamas Too. The Classics are your icons... Di Fara, Joe's, Patsy's in East Harlem, NY Pizza Suprema, L&B Spumoni Gardens, and Louie & Ernie's. Then there's the Neighborhood joints like Luigi's, Dani's House of Pizza, Sal & Carmine, Nunzio's, and a few others that maybe don't get the spotlight but are beloved locally.

I've hit a couple of the Classics and can't argue with them, but I haven't tried the Revivalist ones yet. Curious... do you guys think the Revivalists really belong up there with the Di Faras and Patsy's of the world? Or is it mostly hype?

Places like L'Industrie and Mamas Too go all-out for quality. They use great stuff like burrata, tasty dough, and fresh toppings to really make their pizza special.

Interesting split! From this list, the Revivalists are definitely pushing the envelope and making some genuinely incredible pies.
I second @sillycreeper77, I've been really impressed with the crust development at L'Industrie and Mamas Too.
They're not just throwing on fancy ingredients, the technique is solid but at the same time, I don't think they replace the Classics.
Di Fara and Patsy's have that historical magic you can't duplicate, but the Revivalists absolutely deserve to be in the conversation!
They're what keep the NYC pizza scene evolving.
Then from the New Wave list, definitely try Scarr's or Best Pizza!
It's less about hype and more about a different, highly refined style.
